My story

It began in my Aunt Nga’s sewing room.

Hi, I’m Nga Vu. When I was a girl in Vietnam, I would sit beside my Aunt Nga, a well-known and respected seamstress, and watch her make fine garments for people who preferred tailor-made outfits. I loved the joy in her customers’ eyes as they tried on what she had made.

In her downtime she taught young girls to sew, including me. I grew up helping her, and I inherited both her craft and her love of fashion.

The path to N. Tailor

A lifetime of bridal craft.

Learning beside Aunt Nga

I watched and helped in her sewing room, where she taught young girls how to sew.

A new home, and a Kenmore

My family moved to the United States. With the first paycheck he earned here, my father bought me a Kenmore sewing machine. His faith in me made it possible to carry on Aunt Nga’s tradition, and I will always treasure it.

1999

Textile, Clothing & Design

I graduated from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln with a Bachelor of Science in Textile, Clothing and Design. In my final year, an internship at the bridal boutique Sassi let me tailor for brides and their bridal parties and help them with the choices for their wedding day.

2001

Master Tailor at Von Maur

When Von Maur opened in Lincoln, I joined as a Master Tailor. We double-checked each other’s workmanship before any garment reached the customer, and that teamwork raised my standard.

2009

Sewing from home

After the birth of my third child I stayed home with my children, and kept working as a seamstress and tailor for Joffe’s boutique.

2018 to Now

N. Tailor

I now run N. Tailor, and I’m an independent seamstress for Ellynne Bridal, where I create, redesign, restyle, and tailor designer gowns for brides and bridesmaids. It is an honor.

The craft

Bridal couture, down to the last detail.

Years of training at university and in bridal salons have given me skill in the intricacies of bridal gown couture.
